What is Jailbreaking?

You might have already come across the word “jailbreaking” somewhere on the internet, but what does it actually mean? It’s actually not a term for a person breaking out of prison, but it’s about unlocking your phone’s limitations so that you can do whatever you want with its interface and system.

The term jailbreaking is often used with Apple products, mainly iPhones, as it has been considered to be one of the most locked down and limited in customization among all other phone products produced today.  Jailbreaking an iPhone lets the user customize their phones like an Android by using customization applications that are not approved by Apple. On the other hand, Apple wants to keep their phones a safe environment for their users by keeping customization options limited so that they won’t be faced with malware and hackers.

Even though jailbreaking isn’t an illegal thing to do, but doing so will certainly degrade the value of your phone and void possibly chances of warranty claims. Not only that, jailbreaking involves creating new gaps for hackers to intercept into your system and steal your data if you’re not careful in what you download. Smartphone viruses such as Trojan and Adware are notorious for collecting your data and giving them to malicious third party companies without your knowledge.

However, if you’re looking to learn how to hack, maybe an iPhone isn’t the best option. Androids serve as a playground for both developers and regular users, as well as have a numerous list of customization features so that the users can make design their phone’s look and feel.
